There have been some great advancements in electric toothbrushes  lately, and here we will look at 5 of the best models on the market.  3 of these I have tested myself personally and used for some time.  For the others I have relied on the reviews other people have made.  As always, use your own judgment when deciding on which toothbrush is best for you.

Here are the best 5 Electric Toothbrushes and why they rank at the top of the list:

#1: The Best Overall Toothbrush

The Philips Sonicare Flexcare Plus toothbrush has just come out and I was one of the first people to be able to test it out.  Even before it hit the shelves at the store I had been using it for a couple months because of my connections at the dentist office.  My first impression was that it tingled in my mouth like crazy and I could not stop laughing.  I was told I would get used to this, and to my surprise it was true.  There are 5 different settings including one for gum care, massaging, sensitive teeth, refresh, and cleaning.  I recommend the sensitive setting for people with gum problems.  The only negative stated by some reviewers about the Sonicare FlexCare Plus is that it can be harsh on your gums, but I have not noticed this at all.

The Sonicare Flexcare Plus does not oscillate at all but simply pulsates like crazy.  The pulsating power is really intense when it hits your teeth and you can feel it shooting water through your teeth at the same time it is brushing away any plaque and debris.  Like I said, this feeling takes some getting used to.

This is one serious toothbrush and you can really feel it cleaning every nook and cranny of your teeth.  It honestly feels like you are getting cleaned at the dentist office.  One of the best features in my mind is the ultraviolet light as well.  When you are done brushing your teeth you can simply put the brush head in a special compartment that will kill all bacteria on the bristles with ultra violet light.

Right now you can buy it for around $189.00.

The Philips Sonicare Flexcare Plus gets the best over all rating from us.

#2:  The Best Cleaning Toothbrush for Sensitive Gums

The Oral B 5000 electric toothbrush is a little cheaper than the FlexCare Plus by Sonicare, but many state that it is much easier on your gums while just as effective at cleaning plaque from your teeth.  And remember, having problems with your gums can lead to all kinds of other health issues.  There are also 5 brushing modes with this toothbrush and the Oral B brand has always been highly recommended by dentists.  There is a teeth whitening mode on the PC 5000, but I am not sure how well it works.   This brush really walks you through the proper ways to brush your teeth including a little timer that guides you through the time it should take to brush the 4 different quadrants of your mouth.

This toothbrush both pulsates and oscillates, and the oscillation is one thing that I missed on the FlexCare Plus.

Right now this toothbrush is selling for about $150, but you can find some better deals on line as well.

The Oral B PC5000 is considered by us to be the most effective cleaning toothbrush that is also easy on the gums.

#3:  The Best Toothbrush that Compromises Between Cost and Quality

I used the Oral B Vitality for more than a year and really got some good results with it.  I loved how it had two heads that moved independently of each other to help clean my teeth quickly.  It did not pulsate as fast as other toothbrushes, but it did a decent job for the cost.  On a single charge I could take it with my in a suitcase for a whole week and still have plenty of power left when I got back too.

There is only one setting to use, but like I said, it gets the job done and for only $20 or so.  This is MUCH cheaper than the expensive Oral B 5000 or Sonicare toothbrushes, so for those on a tight budget it’s worth trying out.  the only hassle is that the replacement heads cost about as much as the toothbrush itself.  That’s why I ended up getting the cheaper Arm and hammer Spinbrush after being fed up with expensive heads.

#4: The Best Budget Electric Toothbrush

So I saw the Arm and Hammer Spinbrush at the local drug store when I was looking for replacement heads for my Oral B Vitality and I was shocked by how low the price was.  For only $10 I could have an electric toothbrush?  That was cheaper than the replacement heads alone of the other brush I was looking at.

I bought the Spinbrush and tried it for about a month.  What did I think?  Well, it was NOT very powerful at all.  I was more or less disappointed by the lack of power it had.  If I pushed down too hard on it it practically stopped spinning completely.  But you should be pressing lightly on it against your teeth anyway to protect your gums.

But for 10 bucks, it’s the best you can get in a toothbrush.  It offers two heads that spin and vibrate back and forth to offer some good cleaning action.  I just think it needs some more juice.  The Arm and Hammer Spinbrush comes with a charger and the replacement heads are pretty cheap.  I actually really liked the replacement heads.  Just wish they could have amped up the power.

The Spinbrush gets the Best Low budget electric toothbrush rating from us, and it might be just what you are looking for if you are in a pinch.

#5:  The Best Detailing Electric Toothbrush

The Rota-dent Electric toothbrushes have long been recommended by dentists and it’s easy to see why.   Rated at 90,000 sweeps per second it is one of the fastest toothbrushes you can buy at the moment.  Rota-dent is able to reach in between teeth and clean out underneath the gum lines for effective detailing.  The only problem people generally have is that since the brush head is so small it takes longer to clean out every nook and cranny of your teeth.

But having a small brush head can also be a good thing.  It means you have more control over what is getting cleaned and makes sure you don’t damage your gums because the brush head is reaching beyond your teeth too much.

I love that so many brush heads come with the Rota-dent toothbrush and even a tongue cleaner which is helpful to get rid of bad breath and bacteria.    There are even a couple hollow brush heads that come with it, so rather than having different cleaning modes you can just switch the heads and get a completely different tool for keeping your pearly whites clean from plaque and tartar.
