For years going to the dentist was a somewhat daunting task. Memories of that woman who picked and scraped and jabbed at your teeth and gums still haunt us. The lecture of proper tooth brushing and flossing was always told every time we went in. Some listened and some, well, got the “goody bag” and went home never to pick up floss until the day before the next dental appointment.

Times have changed and so have dental visits and dental products. Sometimes those dental products are a little overwhelming to the average consumer. You go into your local grocery or drug store and there is one whole aisle dedicated to oral hygiene products and you have no idea where to start. This is where we will tell you what to look for when choosing dental floss for your oral hygiene regimen.

Satin Tape Dental Floss

If you are one of the millions of people that find flossing a bit hard, here is where we can help. Satin tape dental floss is floss that is used for people that may have sensitive gums. Regular floss tends to be harder where the satin tape is softer and more durable. It does not shred like regular floss and is quite comfortable and you don’t feel as though you are jabbing yourself. Satin tape is also thicker and is chosen for its durability. It is great for young children who have larger spaces between their teeth as well as adults with spaces. People who have mild arthritis can enjoy this floss as it is easier to hold. This type of floss is like the Cadillac of floss if you will. Soft and durable…it makes flossing not sound quite so bad.

Dental Tape

This product is very much like the Satin tape, however, not as silky smooth. This is the floss for people who need to remove food from their teeth and really don’t want to spend a lot of time doing it. The no nonsense type of person. This floss is thicker and will also slide between the teeth easily and will not shred. This type of floss is also coated with wax to help with easy placement. Dental tape is also proven in different studies to help prevent and stop gingivitis (gum disease) from progressing and starting with regular use.

If you are still wondering to yourself, which one do I really choose? That’s ok. It’s really up to your preference. Ask yourself this…”If I’m flossing everyday (yes, everyday) do I want a minty satin feel that will feel like my gums are at a spa, or do I want my gums to get the “wax” treatment and help my health at the same time? (With regular flossing, any type of floss will keep your gums healthy). You are the boss of your mouth and it’s your call. The dental professionals are just happy that you are flossing. Good luck in your oral hygiene endeavors and the next time you are at a dental visit, your hygienist will be proud that you are flossing.
