There are certain dental issues which an ordinary dentist cannot address accordingly. These include problems with improper bites or crooked teeth. That’s where an orthodontic referral comes in. Referral-based marketing is really a big help both from the one who refers and to whom such was referred to do. More often than not, it is always advantageous for the patient.

Generally, an orthodontic referral must be precise and should state the history of the patient. It must also state the patient’s specific needs and the like. However, for easy dental reference, the same must contain the following :

  1. It should contain all the basic information about the patient. It must also state in the referral he reason for such and what necessary treatment should be done. In fact, it will also be very helpful if a little information on the patient’s attitude is written.
  1. The most recent diagnosis of a patient’s dental condition is also very important. As such, the orthodontist will be able to pick up from where the dentist has left.
  1. An evaluation of the patient’s over-all facial symmetry. Does the patient have severe jaw misalignment? Is there a crowding of teeth? These are just some of the observations that will help the orthodontist in determining the proper procedure to be done on a patient.
  1. It must state the patient’s dental history. In so doing, he would be able to understand the patient more and is in a better position to evaluate the patient’s specific needs. It is also important that he is aware of any impending complications the patient may have. Likewise, knowing the patient’s tolerance level can also be a factor to reckon.
  1. It must also specify the patient’s over-all dental health. Perhaps, this is the most important of the facts that an orthodontic referral must contain. Treating a patient is made a lot easier if the doctor is already knowledgeable of the condition of the patient he is dealing with.

While it is true that one does not need to get an orthodontic referral, it is always beneficial for both the patient and the dentist concerned.
