Some Complaints Filed Against Dentists
Even though dentist offices are one of the most frequently visited offices in the country, a surprisingly high number of complaints are filed each year against dentists and their offices where they work. Common dental complaints range from very rude hygienists, to a dentist accidentally chipping a tooth or filling a cavity incorrectly.
Easily one of the most common dental complaints filed against dentists is the increased hypersensitivity. Hygienists have a tendency to scrape and floss the teeth too roughly which can cause severe pain and sensitivity for the patient. This is an unprofessional practice and the hygienist can lose their credentials if they receive too many complaints from clients that report pain.
Another unfortunate, yet common, problem is when the dentists do not use enough numbing agents when filling cavities. A certain amount of numbing solution is needed for the pain to be completely minimized. Numbing agents are not always needed for very small cavities, but deeper cavities require an oral gel numbing solution as well as novacaine to follow that numbing. When a dentist does not allow enough of the numbing gels to activate and eliminate pain, the jaw muscles can spasm uncontrollably and cause a serious soreness during and after the cavity filling.
If you have ever been to the dentist, you probably know that they place rubber blocks in the back of your mouth so your mouth can be held open widely. Sometimes they use a latex based rubber block to hold the mouth open, which has caused severe allergic reactions for those that have a latex allergy.
Generally dentists are good about doing things precisely so that no errors are reported, but on occasion these things happen and more common than you think. Before getting a cleaning or filling, ask questions. Is the rubber block made from latex? Do you have an allergy to any numbing solutions? Will they be sure to numb your gums enough to eliminate pain? These things should be carefully adhered to so that the patient doesn’t suffer, and so the dentist office can maintain an excellent service reputation in the dentistry field.
