Can Gingivitis Be Treated at Home?
Yes!!! You can treat gingivitis at home. How? Well, it’s quite simple. Let’s take a step back and review what gingivitis is. It is the very beginning stages of periodontal disease. It’s reversible which means you can stop the progression right in its tracks.
By following your hygienist’s instructions you will have a healthy smile in no time at all.
- Brush and floss at least twice a day
- Use an antimicrobial mouth rinse at least twice a day
- See your dentist regularly
- Use a toothpaste that has fluoride in it and can fight plaque for up to 12 hours
- Use a soft bristled toothbrush-it’s gentle on the gums and teeth
- Brush for at least two minutes a day
- Change your toothbrush every 3 months.
- Choose a healthy diet-limit your sugary intake.
These are simple things that can do wonders for your mouth and your health. Now if you already have gingivitis here are some things to remember, rinsing with an antimicrobial mouth rinse will reduce the bacteria in your mouth. If your gums are sore or swollen you can rinse with warm salt water for about a week twice a day to get your gum tissue healing faster. Eat more fruits and vegetables this is a mini workout for your gums and teeth. Limit your sugar intake because this causes more bacteria to be produced and will also cause cavities.
If you want to treat this by a “home remedy” kind of way, you may opt to take Vitamin C. This helps improve the health of bone structure and your gum tissue. Calcium also helps. It will not only help your bone but will help with the symptoms of gingivitis.
If you can do these simple things daily, you will reduce and keep gingivitis at bay and not have to worry about ever loosing your teeth in the future. More and more dentists are trying to keep their patient’s teeth by going to seminars and reading up on what they can do to help. Gum disease is serious and you want to protect your health for your entire life.
